Issue 18: Newsletter Publishing - Are You Sure?

Wednesday, 24th Sept. 2003

Online Marketing Today is a free weekly newsletter designed to help you to better market your products and services online for greater profit. If you like what you see, feel free to subscribe now.

Newsletter Publishing Is A Double Edged Sword...

You've heard it once, you've heard it a million times. "The money is in the list". That's true, but what I often see is a lot of online business owners rushing to start their own newsletters / ezines in order to take advantage of maintaining their own mailing lists.

Most don't realise that newsletter publisher is a double edged sword and is not as EASY as you may initially believe. Publishing a newsletter means serious commitment.

I spend approximately 20 hours per week on work associated with publishing, marketing, and maintaining this weekly letter alone. It's nearly a full time job in fact.

What's more, you need to continually come up with new ideas for content every week. Heck, even I get writers bock sometimes and my mates even call me the "ideas man".

(They sometimes call me "bug" too... but that's a whole other story ;-)

At the same time, you have to ensure you're building and maintaining that delicate relationship you need to build with your readers. One mistake in how you treat them, a controversial article or column, could just see a mass exodus from your list.

Of course, there are some tremendous benefits associated with publishing a newsletter too. Don't get me wrong. I love talking with you every week & I love receiving the positive feedback you send me on the columns I share. It's what makes newsletter publishing worthwhile & keeps me going.

But I do want to highlight the alternative that exists to ensure you're not rushing to start publishing a newsletter just because you've been told "the money is in the list".

The most commonly used alterative is to create an "email course" filled with unique, useful content, which you then deliver automatically to subscribers over a period of days.

This gives you the same advantage of publishing a newsletter and maintaining on opt-in mailing list with much less commitment time wise. That of course, allows you to make a better return on your "time investment".

If you can deliver high quality, unique content that solves a problem and/or helps your course subscribers in some fashion, then you'll obtain the same credibility & relationship building aspects for sure.

The major difference is that your email course can be entirely automated, and you don't need to produce new content every single week. Sure you may need to update it a few times a year to ensure it remains accurate as time goes on, but you don't need to invest 20 hours or more per week researching, writing, editing etc.

You can then maximise the income from such a mailing list by simply sending your email course readers monthly updates containing further useful information. It's during these updates where you can also include a plug for your products or services.

I have a lot of online business associates who use this mailing list model exclusively and it works extremely well for them. And I don't care what type of online business you've got setup, or who your target audience is, there is bound to be some topic which you can create such an automated "mailing list milker" around to satisfy your audience.

Hell, there must be if you were considering publishing a newsletter ;-)

So, if you were tossing up wether or not newsletter publishing was the way to go, and/or have been doing it for a while with little success, then an automated email course is something which I think you should seriously consider as an alternative.

If you would like some more help with planning and developing your own email course, then please feel free to pop on over to the community forums and...

Are You Still Walking The High Wire With Butter On Your Shoes?

No matter what type of online business you're operating, it's extremely likely that you're still walking that high wire (tight rope) with butter on your shoes.

Better watch your step cause one slip and...

As you may or may not be aware the FTC has really been cracking down on online businesses lately. It's quite scary in fact, and makes us all potential targets, not only for the FTC, but also for any nutball out there who wants to make your life difficult with a law suit because you haven't covered your arse to ensure they couldn't.

One prominent online business owner recently had to pay close to a 6 figure penalty as a result of not having the proper legal protection in place, and structuring his offers incorrectly.

Man, that nearly ended the business he'd been building over the past several YEARS & left him flat broke in just a few short months. Scary stuff.

There are certainly plenty of nutballs out there too. Just watch a few episodes of Judge Judy & you'll wonder what the world is coming to.

What you need to understand is that if you operate an online business, there are certain laws rules and regulations you’re required to comply with. Do YOU know what these are?

Heck, I sure didn't until I recently received Shawn Casey's personal guidance with our "Win A Mailing List" promotion. You should've seen all the legal loop holes I'd left in there. It freaks me out just thinking about that one.

I guess more importantly here too is the fact that ignorance of these laws is no excuse and won’t save your butt at the end of the day. So this leaves you with two choices.

You can continue to violate the law, ignore reality, and take ridiculous risks (90% of online business owners currently fall into this category), or wise up and spend just 60 minutes to ensure you're complying with the law to be safe.

Now if there's one guy who can help you here, it's my good friend, mentor, and business associate Shawn Casey. Shawn is not only a master online marketer, but he also spent 12 years as an attorney, both of which make him highly qualified to show you exactly what you need to do to protect your butt.

In fact I'd be bold enough to say he is the MOST qualified in this area.

Now look, I don't want this to sound like an advertisement, so you won't see any affiliate link here, and I'm not receiving any financial or other hidden benefit by recommending his brand new "Internet Law Compliance" package to you.

This is simply a must have training package to ensure you're continually up-to-speed on what's expected of you as an online business owner. Both immediately and over time as the laws, rules, and regulations continually change.

What's more, at under $50 bucks, this is an absolute steal. It's important to realise that you're not going to find any "freebies" to help you in this area in as thorough fashion as you need. So in that respect, if there's one serious investment you need to make before the new year, then this is it.

You can find out more about this brand new package at the Internet Law Compliance website, and I recommend you do seriously consider taking action on this today rather than put it off & forget about it.

By the way, if you're wondering why I haven't included my affiliate link here, which I could've done so quite easily, it's for two reasons.

The first is that a couple of subscribers have emailed me recently telling me that they think I put thinly disguised advertisements in this newsletter in order to make a quick buck off you.

I just want to assure you this in not the case (many of my long time subscribers will know this already).

In the advent that I do recommend products and services with an affiliate link in this weekly letter, it's only ever due to the fact that I highly recommend and personally use and/or have used them in the past.

The fact that some of the products, services, and resources I often recommend have an associated affiliate program is just an added bonus. The resulting commissions I make are the ONLY thing supporting this weekly letter from me, ensuring it remains a no-cost publication.

The second reason was to ensure that if you were under this misconception, then you would see how much value I am placing on getting Shawn's new training package. It's that important...

I don't want to see you crash and burn as a result of something which you can easily protect yourself against by taking just a few hours of your time to set things up correctly.

Of course...

If you would like to help support this weekly letter, and you're going to take my advice and grab yourself a copy of the Internet Law Compliance package today, you're welcome to send me an email and I'll drop you my affiliate link which you can order through to help me pay the rent this week ;-)

If not, that's cool too... at least we've cleared this misconception up. Oh yeah, and in case you were wondering, I kindly removed those people off the newsletter list BUT... they both complained I had done so and re-subscribed themselves.

Go figure...

If There Was One Strategic Business Advantage I Could GIVE You This Year, Then THIS Is It...

If there was just one strategic business advantage I could give you this year (over your competitors who are sitting on their hands right now) then this is it.

A few days ago you should've received an email about the pre-launch of a new automated viral marketing traffic generation network called ImBlaze. I've been helping my good friend Josh develop this over the past few months, and I really want to highlight what this means for YOU.

Now you know I'm not one who promotes the usual multi-level marketing traffic generation networks (and other crappy marketing techniques like blasting to safe lists). The reason is simple. It's because the results they produce are usually, well, non-existent.

"Start Page" exchanges are a waste of time. This is due to the fact that people only sign up with the intent to get other members looking at their website. They do not have a direct interest in visiting YOUR site. It's more like a chore they have to complete in order to receive the benefit of participation. As a result, conversion ratios are little to none.

The only people who are able to see "slightly average" (and I use that term with hesitation) results using these networks are people marketing to webmasters, because all members are, you guessed it, webmasters.

"Exit Exchanges" are similarly not worth my recommendation. You know the ones, where you place a popup window on your site, and when your visitors leave they are forced to view another members website. The keyword there is forced.

People exposed to these popup windows have not specifically requested to view your website, and as such, produce dismal response rates. It's not surprising that you piss more people off with all the popup windows you've got going on, than the very few results you see using these services.

I could go on about all of these different types of networks until the cows came home, but I'll stop there, and instead, highlight why ImBlaze is entirely different and why you need to jump on this now if you want to set yourself up with a massive, exponentially growing, no-cost advertising network for YOUR online business.

First and foremost, we only went into pre-launch two days ago. This gives you the "first mover" advantage here and allows you to refer a few other webmasters or business associates to the launch to pre-build your own self-promoting downline.

Secondly, ImBlaze is NOT limited to a "webmaster marketing to webmaster" community. That's a major flaw in other similar networks and this is what makes ImBlaze a first. There are only a certain amount of other webmasters people know.

I'm sure you also know that you have to be one of the first promoting such multi-level networks, like those previously mentioned, to get the maximum advantage out of them.

24 months down the track and the downline you build is going to be extremely poor performing due to over saturation in the "webmaster marketing to webmaster" community. In fact they are not even worth your time promoting then. It happens with all MLM type programs, both online and offline, eventually.

Would you join Amway now? I doubt it.

The difference with ImBlaze is that it's only using this "webmasters marketing to webmaster" base to drive the REAL viral marketing tool out to the general internet user base (although this webmaster referral component will continue to exist after pre-launch also for maximum benefit).

This is where things just continue to blow my mind with potential...

If you can signup just 3 or 4 webmasters, newsletter publishers, network marketers, or business associates into the pre-launch, you stand a very realistic chance of building the powerful, no-cost, exponentially growing network, as outlined on the main page of the ImBlaze website.

Each of those webmasters will then do the same and reach out to their existing contacts, building you a downline of pre-launch members 10 levels deep. And you'll earn advertising credits from all webmasters who are in your downline, and are using the chatting application...

But here's where it gets better AND where ImBlaze picks up on where the others left off...

You see this tool is an ad supported "all-in-one" instant messaging application. It allows people to chat to all their friends from one place, regardless of the chat system they're using.

When we officially launch this site in less than 30 days time, you're then able to not only use the free messenger yourself, but you can also refer your friends, family and associates (directly or indirectly as you'll see) and build another massive downline of general internet users, all earning you no-cost advertising down to infinity.

So if you refer Joe, Jane, and John, each of whom has their own group of friends they chat to, then whenever they initiate a chat with those friends, a small ad is displayed on the chat window, letting them all know they're using the ImBlaze messenger.

Some of these friends will also come and download it because it's a much more convenient way to chat, and as such, a new group of friends gets exposed to these subtle recommendations via that new user. And so on, and so on...

What's important here is that as Joe, Jane, and John, either directly or indirectly refer more people to the application like this, everyone that downloads it as a result (down to infinity!) will be placed in YOUR downline and will power YOUR no-cost advertising network.

This is powerful stuff.

So, as you can see, the benefit of jumping in on the pre-launch now is that you'll be able to earn credits off the entire automated network of users your ENTIRE webmaster downline refers as well, forever, and it will continue to grow exponentially.

This is why ImBlaze IS going to become THE most popular "all in one instant messaging application" online in just a few short months. I positively guarantee that. If you don't believe me, let's talk about it next year ;-)

Look, I've never been in a better position to bring you in on the ground level of something so explosive like this before, but of course, it's up to you to take action and make the decision to jump onboard.

If you feel that you'd be able to refer 3 or more other webmasters now, then you have the first mover advantage and will be able to build a massive automated no-cost advertising network with very little effort. Hell, it build's itself after you refer just a couple of business associates.

So I'm going to leave it at that so I don't ramble on about it. You can tell this has got me excited ;-)

If you would like to discuss this some more, then please feel free to pop on over and meet me in the discussion forums.

I sincerely hope you can see the opportunity I've put in front of you here and more importantly take advantage of it.

This is only two days old and already some members have downlines 6 levels deep... all from word of mouth. These people are smart and can see the potential and I hope you can too. Visit ImBlaze now and get yourself started today.

As I've said, if there was just one strategic business advantage I could give you this year (over your competitors who are sitting on their hands right now) then this is it...
