Comedians Jim David, Corey Bailey and Tommy B. will perform at a benefit concert sponsored by COMEDY CENTRAL(R), Cox Cable and The Tulsa Comedy Club on Wednesday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m. at The Tulsa Comedy Club as part of the network's "Comedy Rx" pro-social program. Proceeds from the evening of comedy will benefit the Child Abuse Network.
It's well documented that humor can promote healing. That's why COMEDY CENTRAL, the only all-comedy network, is partnering with Cox Cable and The Tulsa Comedy Club to make a difference through "Comedy Rx," a program that helps heighten awareness of the positive effects of laughter.
"Comedy Rx" was created in 1998 and has made an impact on lives throughout the United States through the power of laughter. Laughter is a "miracle drug" that can reduce stress, lessen pain, decrease anxiety, heighten resistance to disease, inspire creativity and bolster morale. "Comedy Rx" aims to generate awareness of the positive effects of laughter and create positive contributions to local communities. These efforts have benefited many local hospitals across the country in addition to organizations such as Gilda's Club, The Wellness Community, the American Cancer Society, the United Way, Make-a-Wish Foundation, The Ronald McDonald House, Chris Farley Rebos House, the American Diabetes Association and the March of Dimes.
"We are thrilled to be combining our efforts with those of COMEDY CENTRAL," commented Jane Montgomery, Marketing Director of The Tulsa Comedy Club. "Together, we can accomplish so much to heighten awareness of the positive effects of laughter as a healing tool."
"Comedy has the power to make a difference in people's lives and well being," said Steve Males, vice president, affiliate marketing, COMEDY CENTRAL.
The Tulsa Comedy Club is participating in the "Comedy Rx" event by arranging for comedian Jim David to perform at The Tulsa Comedy Club, with the proceeds benefiting The Child Abuse Network. The benefit is set for October 12, 2000. The club will open to the public at 7:30 p.m. with the show starting at 8:00 p.m. Also appearing are comedians Corey Bailey and Tommy B.
A Pre-Med major entering college and comedian upon exit (apparently Chemistry proved to be his downfall), Jim David has appeared on many comedy shows including performances on COMEDYC CENTRAL, MTV, VH1, a "Dateline NBC" special about political comedy, the "NBC Comedy Showcase" starring Louie Anderson and A&E's "Caroline's." He also appeared on Broadway in the musical "The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public" and in the feature films "Radioland Murders," "Enemies: A Love Story" and "The First Time."
Tickets for the benefit can be purchased by calling The Tulsa Comedy Club at (918) 481-0558. Tickets are $10.00 per person. The Tulsa Comedy Club has a one-drink minimum per person for all shows.
