NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 2003

-- Detailed Commentary on Reintroduced Anti-Spam Bill Now

Available Online --

Bigfoot Interactive, the leading provider of strategic, ROI-focused email communication solutions and marketing automation technologies, and The Isaacson Group, a specialized consulting practice assisting companies and organizations with interactive marketing and e-policy implementation, today issued commentary on the newly reintroduced federal legislation, the "CAN-SPAM Act" ("Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003").

Both Bigfoot Interactive and The Isaacson Group are of like mind that while this bill is an encouraging initial action by the federal government, lawmakers have overlooked several key areas of consideration that could impact the delivery of legitimate, requested email communications.

"We applaud the introduction of federal legislation that would pre-empt state email laws and tackle the elements of society who are polluting inboxes with unsolicited, illegal and fraudulent email as defined in the bill," said Al DiGuido, CEO, Bigfoot Interactive. "While this bill focuses on some of the key areas that need to be addressed, we believe there is an opportunity to build on the work done here to further clarify and distinguish permission-based email communications from spam. We look forward to working with various constituencies including consumers, legislators, marketers, Internet service providers and industry associations on education, self-regulation and federal legislation to confront this problem and protect the continued advancement of email communications."

"This legislation represents a strong first step at the federal level in finally solving the spam epidemic," said Ben Isaacson of The Isaacson Group. "If email is going to continue to be an effective marketing medium, legislators, Internet service providers and permission-based emailers must unite to assist with federal enforcement coupled with enhanced education through effective industry best practices."

The full version of the commentary, available at www.bigfootinteractive.com/canspam and www.theisaacsongroup.com, discusses the positive impact of the bill on legitimate, permission-based marketers as well as suggestions for improvements and areas of concern.

The bill, introduced by Senators Conrad Burns (R-MT) and Ron Wyden (D-OR), must be passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate before being sent to President George W. Bush for consideration. The CAN-SPAM Act was originally introduced in the 107th Congress.

Both Al DiGuido and Ben Isaacson will be presenting at the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) upcoming Spam Forum to be held in Washington, DC April 30th to May 2. For more information please visit http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/workshops/spam/index.html.
