The Interactive Advertising Bureau said in December that Internet advertising reached $1.745 billion in the third quarter of 2003, the highest ad tally reported since the third quarter of 2001. The total was a 20% increase over the third quarter of 2002 total of $1.451 billion, and a 5% increase over the second quarter of 2003.
The advertising industry has been buoyed by the return of such companies as Yahoo! Yahoo!'s advertising sales increased 48% in the third quarter of 2003 compared to the third quarter of 2002.
MarketWatch.com, meanwhile, reported a 29.7% increase in advertising sales while TheStreet.com reported a 15.3% increase in advertising sales.
The advertising sales study is conducted quarterly by PricewaterhouseCoopers and is estimated by surveying and aggregating quarterly data from the top 15 online ad sellers.
