NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 2001
DoubleClick Inc. (Nasdaq: DCLK), the industry's leading global Internet advertising solutions company, announced today that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has closed its inquiry into DoubleClick's ad serving and data collection practices.
The investigation began in February 2000.
In a letter to the Company, the FTC stated "it appears to staff that DoubleClick never used or disclosed consumers' PII (personally identifiable information) for purposes other than those disclosed in its privacy policy." In addition, the FTC concluded that DoubleClick "has not used sensitive data for any online preference marketing product."
Over the course of the past year, DoubleClick has launched several initiatives to further protect privacy on the Internet and to confirm its position as the leader in setting the standards for consumer privacy online. Included in these initiatives are the naming of Jules Polonetsky, New York City's Former Consumer Affairs Commissioner, as Chief Privacy Officer; establishing a Consumer Privacy Advisory Board; commissioning privacy audits conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers; launching a widespread banner advertising campaign to facilitate the education of Internet users about their privacy rights online; and creating a consumer education Web site, www.privacychoices.com, where consumers can opt-out of targeted ads.
"DoubleClick remains committed to ensuring the highest level of online consumer privacy, both within our company and throughout the industry," said Kevin Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of DoubleClick.
