Advanstar Inc., publishers of more than 100 business and trade magazines and owner of as many trade shows, is actively recruiting in the Internet space with the expansion of its Internet subsidiary, Hive4.com,, according to Advanstar vice chairman James M. Alic. The company has already launched the first two of what is expected to be 20 vertical online communities in the industries it serves, from fashion to telecommunications.
Recent launches include MagicOnline--an extension of Advanstar's Magic apparel trade show, and Hive4Media, a community complementing the company's Video Store Magazine. Several more launches are expected over the next few months, including Hive4telecom, Hive4CRM and Hive4Hospitality.
Alic says the company plans to add another 15 people to the company's Internet division, which is responsible both for the VOCs and providing support for the company's 79 Web sites. The positions most in demand include Web editors and developers, sales people and Internet marketing specialists. Hive4.com, which numbered 40 in the spring, has already increased by one-half. "That's where most of the hiring is taking place," he said.
