TOKYO, JAPAN, 1998 MAR 25 (NB) -- By Martyn Williams, Newsbytes. ValueClick has announced an expansion of its Internet advertising to Japan. The company said its service represents the first "pay-per-visitor" Internet advertising network in the Pacific Rim.
ValueClick-Japan will be based in Tokyo and operated through a localization and distribution agreement with JPORT, an Internet marketing company. The deal between the two companies calls for revenue sharing.
The Japanese network will consist of quality Japanese language Web sites and, like the American service, be based on a cost-per- click-through pricing model, that only charges advertisers for people that actually visit the advertisers Web site. Conventional advertising deals are usually based on the number of people who see an advertisement.
Japan's largest advertising agency, Dentsu, recently announced its estimates for the Internet advertising market in Japan. It said advertising expenditure on major Internet sites in 1997 totaled 6.04 billion yen ($46.5 million). Based on its research, and advertising expenditures of $2.25 billion recorded in the last three months of 1997, Dentsu said it expects total expenditure in the current year to surpass 9.00 billion yen ($69.3 million).
The company also said, the Japanese launch will mark the first of many international launches. "Our goal for global expansion in 1998 includes launching ValueClick in Germany, Europe and South America," said Brian Coryat, president of ValueClick.
