MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 1995--Elan Computer Group, a leading provider of software license management solutions for Unix, Windows, Windows NT and NetWare-based systems, Tuesday announced a new service targeted at software publishers, Internet Storefronts, companies who offer Internet marketing tools, and anyone who wishes to sell/rent/lease goods over the Internet.
This new service, dubbed "EIS," for Elan Internet Services, combines Elan's software license manger, plus a WWW tool for enabling secure distribution of evaluation software, plus Elan's development engineering and consulting services.
EIS provides the protection from illegal copying of software that is missing in most of the electronic publishing solutions today.
According to Ken Greer, president and founder of Elan: "EIS offers a quick and simple way to integrate a wide variety of copy protection models without the traditional encumbrances of hardware keys. With EIS, the publisher can integrate, compile and test in almost no time, and be in a position to take advantage of the new distribution options offered by the Internet and by CD-ROM."
Asked for the typical EIS customer profile, Greer went on to state: "It's wide open. We're talking with people who want to rent electronic textbooks and with others who simply want to open up a new channel of distribution for their software. There seems to be plenty of people cropping up who offer some level of electronic distribution tools, but we haven't found anyone who offers protection from illegal copying. The only way to really ensure that the software publisher gets paid for software that gets used is through a facility like EIS."
Elan Computer Group is a privately held company with headquarters in Mountain View. In business since 1985, Elan customers include AT&T, Siemens, Legent, Autodesk, Fujitsu, Apple Computer and Sybase.
